How to Start an FEA Chapter

  1. APPROVALS - Obtain any necessary approvals from the school administration.

  2. ADVISOR - Identify one (or more) teacher(s) in the school who would be willing to be the chapter advisor(s). Selecting the best possible chapter advisor is critical to the success of the chapter.  It is recommended that this person be a faculty member who is enthusiastic about the profession, a positive role model and an exemplary leader.  The chapter advisor is not required to be a member of PAGE, PDK or any particular professional organization.

  3. AFFILIATION - Affiliation is the first step official step to establishing your new chapter.  This is how to begin receiving information from the state and national offices.  Please note that there are two affiliations available:  state and national, each available through a separate process.

    1. State affiliation is available through the PAGE Foundation and is "chapter-based," meaning each chapter pays only $30 per year.  Newly affiliated state chapters will receive an electronic FEA Georgia Starter Guide.

    2. National affiliation is available through Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK) and is "individual-based," meaning each individual pays $8 per year . Among other benefits, state and national affiliations make your chapter eligible for discounted registration prices at state and national conferences.  The FEA Handbook for Chapter Advisors is available online to nationally affiliated chapters.

To access online affiliation for both the state and national organizations, click "Chapter Affiliation" at the right.

  1. GETTING STARTED - Both the state FEA Georgia Starter Guide and the FEA Handbook for Chapter Advisors address many topics including how to start a chapter, developing a yearly action plan and activity program and ideas.  Additional information and suggestions are available on this FEA Georgia website by clicking any of the links to the right and on the FEA national website at

  2. MEETINGS - The PAGE Foundation hosts two statewide meetings per year for FEA chapters: 1) Fall Conference and 2) FEA Spring Training (FEAST).  While not mandatory, these events offer additional opportunities and support for chapters.  There are registration discounts for state-affiliated chapters.  To learn more about upcoming statewide events click on "Conferences" at the right.

More information and tips on getting started are discussed in archived episodes of FEA Today, our podcast program for FEA members and advisors.  Click on the FEA Today link at the right to access the podcast channel.  There are six episodes that are recommended viewing for new chapters:  August 2009 through January 2010.

If you have questions about your new chapter, please send them to the FEA state director by using the "Contact Us" link at the right.
