How to Start an FEA Chapter

1. APPROVALS - Obtain any necessary approvals from the school administration.
    
2. ADVISOR - Identify one (or more) teacher(s) in the school who would be willing to be the chapter advisor(s). Selecting the best possible chapter advisor is critical to the success of the chapter.  It is recommended that this person be a faculty member who is enthusiastic about the profession, a positive role model and an exemplary leader.  The chapter advisor is not required to be a member of PAGE, PDK or any particular professional organization.
    
3. AFFILIATION - State affiliation is only $25 per year for both new and renewing chapters.  National affiliation is available through PDK.  First-year national affiliation is $100, which includes a charter kit.  After that, national renewal each year is $65.  Please note that the state and national affiliation fees are per chapter, not per individual student (see note below).  Among other benefits, state and national affiliations make your chapter eligible for discounted registration prices at state and national conferences.  Affiliate your chapter by clicking here. Follow the instructions for both state and national affiliation.   Please note that these are two separate processes.
      
4. HANDBOOK - The FEA Handbook for Chapter Advisors comes with the national charter kit that you will receive with your initial national affiliation and addresses many topics including how to start a chapter, developing a yearly action plan and activity program and ideas.  Additional information and suggestions are available on the FEA national website (www.futureeducators.org) and by clicking any of the links to the right.
    
5. MEETINGS - The PAGE Foundation hosts two statewide meetings per year for FEA chapters: 1) Fall Conference and 2) FEA Spring Training (FEAST).  While not mandatory, these events offer additional opportunities and support for chapters.  There are registration discounts for state-affiliated chapters.  To learn more about upcoming statewide events click on "Conferences" at the right.
