Catoosa County’s Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School won the 2017 PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon (GAD) State Championship. It is the seventh time that the high school has captured the event’s top honor. The team scored the highest points overall in Division I and II and was presented the Howard Stroud Championship Trophy.
This year’s two-day academic competition was held on Feb. 24 and 25 at Berkmar High School in Gwinnett County. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe is a Division II, or small-school (based on school population size) participant, and will be submitted as the Georgia representative to the annual U.S. Academic Decathlon (USAD) National Competition, which will be held April 20-22, 2017, in Madison, WI. South Forsyth Middle School claimed the top spot in the 2017 PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades State Championship competition. The Forsyth County Schools team won the title at the PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) event on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Georgia College & State University (GC&SU) Arts and Sciences Auditorium in Milledgeville, GA.
During the morning session of the event, 24 semi-finalist teams from across the state competed in a round-robin competition. Eight teams emerged as finalists from that round of competition, and those teams competed against each other in the afternoon single-elimination competition session, with South Forsyth Middle School’s academic bowl team winning top honors.
